Every week someone forwards us two quotations for the same website and asks why one is five times the other. Usually both are honest — they are just quoting different work.
The cheap end
The cheapest quotes are almost always a template installed with your logo dropped in. That is a legitimate product, and for a small shop it can be the right call. What you are not paying for is a design made around your content, a system you can operate yourself, speed and security work, or anybody answering the phone in month seven.
The middle
The middle of the market is a custom design on a well-known platform, with an admin panel, basic SEO and some post-launch support. This is where most small and medium businesses should land.
The top
At the top you are paying for custom application work: things the platform cannot do out of the box, integrations with systems you already run, and a team on retainer.
Three questions to ask
Before comparing two quotes, ask each vendor who owns the domain and hosting account, what happens if you want to change a price or add a page yourself, and what the support arrangement is after launch. The answers usually explain the gap.
